… so My word will be that goes out from My mouth.
It will not return to Me in vain,
but will accomplish what I intend,
and will succeed in what I sent it for. Isaiah 55:11, TLV
GOD’s POV. I pray this verse a lot. How about you? But what does it really mean? Does it mean that every passage we have preached to our children, our friends, our family, even strangers will succeed and accomplish what we intended? Maybe.
Pronouns in the Bible are so important. Especially when it comes to knowing who is speaking and to whom. I want to know when ADONAI [the LORD] proclaims something, because it is different than if a person proclaims it.
Incline your ear and come to Me.
Listen, so that your soul may live.
I will make an everlasting covenant with you,
the trustworthy loyalty to David. (vs. 3, TLV, emphasis mine)
This verse is easy to spot who is declaring, even without the capitalizations. But in our verse today, capitalizing the pronouns for GOD are very important. It changes the POV (Point of VIEW). Isaiah isn’t claiming that everything that comes out of his [Isaiah’s] mouth about GOD will accomplish what he [Isaiah] intends. Why is this important?
As a writer, POV is so important. When I am in the POV of each character, I must be careful how I write because the character can only see what is in front of them — well, maybe peripherally, too. I can only write what they know and understand. And as limiting as that is, it is less confusing to the reader. The reader knows what the character knows—no more.
GOD’s POV
So, when it is GOD’s POV, it means He sees everything. There are no restrictions to what He knows. I can trust what He says because of His omniscience. When He says it, He has already seen it in the future.
Today’s verse is GOD’s POV, as transcribed by Isaiah. The words that come from His [GOD’s] mouth will accomplish what He [GOD] intends. He intends. It all goes back to what we’ve been talking about for a few weeks now: the Father’s will be done (Matthew 6:10).
We can spout Scripture until the rooster crows, but ultimately, GOD’s word will accomplish what He wills. That’s humbling.
However, since we don’t know — well, most of the time we don’t know — what GOD’s will is for us and others, we keep sharing His word with the hope and understanding that He is a good Father.
Still, there’s a responsibility that we live honorably and serve Him. We do the best we can as emissaries of the Creator of the Universe. Yes, we’ll make mistakes, but we must be clear on His words. To know the difference between what GOD promises and reports, and what man promises and reports.
By the way, that’s why whatever translation of the Bible I use, I make sure they capitalize GOD’s pronouns. Then I know when it is my Father’s voice and Yeshua’s voice, not the scribe or prophet. Point-of-View is so important in fiction, wouldn’t it be even more important with GOD’s word?
Something to think about.
