“. . . You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free!” John 8:32, TLV

Can We Handle the Whole Truth?   Most followers of Jesus would say they that they can. And, once again, if we’re basing that understanding on this verse alone, I would say we might be missing something important. The previous verse.

Let’s read the two verses together.

“Then Yeshua said to the Judeans who had trusted Him, “If you abide in My word, then you are truly My disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free!” vss. 31-31, TLV [emphasis mine]

Catch that word? Abide. We talked a little about abiding in 1 John 4:15′ s Daily Touch. In the passage above, Jesus is telling the new believers that the way to truly be His followers is to abide in His word. Does that mean His words are only the ones in red in your Bible? No. That is an emphatic, no.

Yeshua was the Word made flesh (John 1:1-4). Before there were red-lettered texts, there was “In the beginning . . .” (Genesis 1:1) So, is it safe to “assume” that when our Savior embodied what was then all of Scripture, He meant that His word was all of Scripture? What was written before He walked the earth, what was written while He walked the earth, and what was written after He ascended back to His Father. The whole truth.

The truth is woven into the whole Bible — from “In the beginning …” (Genesis 1:1), all the way until “May the grace of the LORD Yeshua be with all!” (Revelation 22:21)

Understanding the whole truth is part of our faith journey. And, indeed, the truth will free us to walk boldly.

How has the whole truth set you free?

Shabbat Shalom!
