Daily Word: Procrastination! OY!  Proverbs 3:28

Do not say to your neighbor, “Come back later—I’ll give it tomorrow,” when you have it with you. Proverbs 3:28, TLV

Procrastination! OY!   On the surface, today’s proverb warns against a strategic-type of procrastination. That, “I have something you want, but you have to wait until I want to give it to you” control. Very poor behavior.

But I was thinking, the thing about procrastination is it is a choice. We decide to put off doing whatever we should do now. Whether for selfish reasons, control, or plain-old laziness, we decide.

Over the years I’ve learned how procrastination can create unnecessary chaos. When I don’t make the call, pay that bill, do that THING that doesn’t seem like a big deal, it comes back and bites me in the tush (Yiddish for fanny).

Procrastination doesn’t just affect my life. As this proverb indicates, it can affect others. Withholding something as simple as a phone call to say we’re running late can cause concern and frustration. We don’t even have to have ill intent, it still hurts.

Sometimes that 5 minute task has more value than saving the 5 minutes. It’s sure worth remembering that.

May we be and do in the now, my friends.

Do you struggle with procrastination? Has someone’s procrastination adversely affected you? Have any tips on how to avoid putting things off?

Thanks for stopping by. I realized this proverb was a good reminder to not put things off. If this blog was helpful, please share—right now. 😊 Thanks again and God bless.
