One who loves purity of heart and whose speech is gracious, will have the king as his friend. Proverbs 22:11, TLV

The Lionhearted.   I love this verse! It reminds me of how Lucy Pevensie’s pure heart enabled her to connect with Aslan before her siblings — not her intelligence or strength, her heart. That purity of heart is a lionheart in GOD’s Kingdom — and why our Heavenly Father loves it.

In my roles as employee and employer, I’ve had the honor of being a friend and confidant to others in power, and I’ve treasured the relationship of others whom I supervised. The connective tissue for these priceless relationships is the purity of heart and gracious speech.

Someone who loves purity of heart lives a life of grace. I wish I could say I’m one of those with purity of heart naturally — I am a work-in-progress. It takes a lot of effort to walk a life of graciousness and that manifests itself in pure responses.

But, even in my attempts, it has afforded me the honor of helping those who carry a weight of responsibilities I’ll never know.

In the past, I’ve been blessed to count several of my employees as pure of heart. They were more than just trustworthy members of my staff. Why? Because they brought pleasant conversation and feedback. They had no hidden agenda to capitalize on my position. They were great sounding-boards and weren’t afraid to present a different opinion from mine — which made me a better manager.

Do we seek a pure heart and the ability to speak with graciousness? Do we know people who emulate that lifestyle? Then learn from them. Watch them. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal your pure heart and gracious voice.

May we love a pure heart and speak with graciousness, my friends.

Think More About It
