. . . when your terror comes like a storm and your calamity sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when trouble and distress overwhelm you! Proverbs 1:27, TLV
Roll Back the Scroll—QUICK! It’s time! Time to roll back the Sefer Mishlei — the Book of Proverbs. Books back in the time of Moses and Israel’s prophets and kings were scrolls. The parchment scrolls had their beginning in ancient Egypt. Some clay tablets were used. However, the weight alone became inconvenient.
Sefer — Book
The scrolls used by Israel’s descendants began with Moses. While the nations used parchment and papyrus, Israel used animal skins made from kosher animals, which were more durable.
The codex book format began with sheaves of parchment, bound in various ways, in the first century CE/AD by the Romans.
Whatever The Format . . .
Whatever the format, repetitive reading of the Scriptures builds our understanding of God’s word. It builds character, maturity, hope, joy, knowledge, and, one of my favorites, wisdom.
At the beginning of each month, those who follow Wisdom’s Journey return to chapter one. We do this because the Holy Spirit will always give us: new insights, deeper insights, and reminders of wisdom we have forgotten. Just a few minutes a day can provide lifetime benefits for the good, and not so good times.
Scary Verse
Today’s proverb is one of those scary verses that caution against ignoring wisdom’s call. But, when we choose to listen to her call, when we choose to call her “sister” (Proverbs 7:4) and have a real relationship with wisdom, then when the terrors, calamities, troubles, and distress storm our life we can find that place of shalom — peace.
As the Creator of the Universe’s children and followers of His Son and followers of His wisdom, peace comes with knowledge and understanding. It’s the difference between cowering in the corner and walking our purpose.
So, as we roll back the scroll and delve into the new revelation and insights, and remember what He has shown us, let us continue to walk Wisdom’s Journey.
Think More About It
How has wisdom helped you through a scary time?
Until tomorrow, may we choose to continue on Wisdom’s Journey, my friends.
‘Since the day that I brought My people out of the land of Egypt, I did not choose a city out of all the tribes of Israel in which to build a House that My Name might be there. Nor did I choose any man to be a leader over My people Israel. But I have chosen Jerusalem that My Name would abide there and I have chosen David to be over My people Israel.’ 2 Chronicles 6:5-6, TLV
Thanks for praying. God bless you.
