Is Prudence Relevant to Me?     Are you prudent? Do you act with care or show care and thought for the future? Planning comes with the understanding that our Heavenly Father is behind the scenes working things out for His own purpose.

Prudence takes planning to a new level. It refines it to include self-discipline. For instance: not spending those few dollars on a trinket, but instead saving it toward a goal; or making a meal with what’s in the fridge and pantry rather than ordering out. It’s making the effort to sow so that in the future we can find the good harvest.

Anyone can benefit from prudence — a follower of Jesus or not. So, one who trusts in the LORD and exercises divine-inspired prudence will not only find good but will also be blessed.

What Does Prudence Look Like?

What could that look like? I think of Noah and the mammoth-sized prudence it took to prepare an ark for his family and animals. Not just the building of the ark but all that it took to feed and tend to human and animal alike. That prudence saved their lives and changed the course of history. (Genesis 6-9)

We may not build an ark or change history, but we are building the life our Father called us to. We have purpose and that purpose carries responsibilities to our Father, family, friends, and community.

Prudence for us might mean making the most of each day. To not spend it in idleness (which doesn’t mean resting because we need that). Seek wisdom. Seek God’s will. Choose joy. Seek a healthy lifestyle. To be content and grateful. Reach out to others. Sow into the lives of others.

When we trust the LORD, we will be blessed and find good. And that’s a good thing.
