Search me, O God, and know my heart.
Examine me, and know my anxious thoughts,
and see if there be any offensive way within me,
and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23-24, TLV
We Can’t Change… What We Don’t See. Do we have the courage to pray this passage? Every single day? Perhaps several times a day? I used to. Not sure when I stopped, but no question, I need to resume this prayer. Because it’s not just about allowing our Father to know our thoughts — He knows them whether we “allow” Him or not — it’s about Him revealing them to us.
Knowing our motivations and true thoughts can be a bit scary. To be placed under that spiritual microscope is where real change happens. Because we can’t change what we don’t — or won’t — see.
Why does our Heavenly Father want us to see? So He can point a finger and say, “Yuck, look at that!” Nah. He’s known about them before we were formed in our mother’s womb.
For You have created my conscience. You knit me together in my mother’s womb. (vs. 13, TLV)
He reveals by His Holy Spirit those sins and yucky thoughts and motivations because He knows that these things are hurting us. Keeping us from freedom and being who He created us to be.
How about joining me? Each morning and/or evening praying this before we ask for forgiveness? As we all know, we can’t change what we won’t acknowledge. And we can’t acknowledge what we won’t see.
Search me, O God, and know my heart …
Think More About It
What do you think of praying this passage each day? Thoughts? Concerns? Hopes? Love to hear your comments.
Until tomorrow, may we “allow” our loving God to search …
Praying for Israel
For the music director: a psalm of David.
ADONAI [LORD], You searched me and know me.
Whenever I sit down or stand up, You know it.
You discern my thinking from afar.
You observe my journeying and my resting
and You are familiar with all my ways. Psalm 139:1-3, TLV
Amen for me. Amen as we stand in the gap for Israel and the Jewish people. God bless you.
