Wisdom’s Journey: Proverbs 25:2

The Wise Still Seek Him

TODAY’S PROVERB: It is the glory of God to conceal a matter and the glory of kings to search it out. Proverbs 25:2

Merry Christmas! Around 2 billion people worldwide celebrate Christmas every year. According to History.com, it is one of the most celebrated holidays of the year in many countries, as it is now often celebrated by Christians and non-Christians alike. Nine out of 10 people celebrate Christmas in the United States.

While most of the world celebrates Christmas on Dec. 25th, Orthodox Christians celebrate it on Jan. 7. The date of Yeshua’s birth is not known, other scholars believe He may have been born around the Feast of Tabernacles. Others around Passover or the beginning of the Biblical year before Passover.

Whether Jesus was born in the winter, spring, or fall, the fact that there are easily millions of families celebrating His birth today is still profound.

Imagine being chosen to witness Jesus’ arrival on this planet. Who did our Heavenly Father chose to see His Son in His most vulnerable state? First the humble–the shepherds. (Luke 2:1-20)

Later, three wise men searched out the location of the King of the Jews. (Matthew 2:1-12)

Even King Herod knew to look for Him in Bethlehem. His wise men knew the prophecies of old: “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah— least among the clans of Judah— from you will come out to Me One to be ruler in Israel, One whose goings forth are from of old, from days of eternity.” Micah 5:1

The humble and the wise. The curious and the seekers. Wealthy and poor. Some sought Him in hope. Others in fear and violence. How do we seek Him?

On this precious day, I leave you with my favorite Christmas carol and wish you and yours a sweet day of remembering the love of our GOD who was birthed in a manger:

Oh, come, oh, come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel!

Oh, come, our Wisdom from on high,
Who ordered all things mightily;
To us the path of knowledge show,
and teach us in her ways to go.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel!

Oh, come, oh, come, our Lord of might,
Who to your tribes on Sinai’s height
In ancient times gave holy law,
In cloud and majesty and awe.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel!

Oh, come O Rod of Jesse’s stem,
From ev’ry foe deliver them
That trust your mighty pow’r to save;
Bring them in vict’ry through the grave.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel!

Oh, come, O Key of David, come,
And open wide our heav’nly home;
Make safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to misery.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel!

Oh, come, our Dayspring from on high,
And cheer us by your drawing nigh,
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death’s dark shadows put to flight.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel!

Oh, come, Desire of nations, bind
In one the hearts of all mankind;
Oh, bid our sad divisions cease,
And be yourself our King of Peace.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel!
