Whoever trusts in his own heart is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will escape. Proverbs 28:26, TLV

Surf’s Up!      Sometimes, we can take the time to meditate and be introspective about what our Heavenly Father shows us, and other times we take whatever life gives us and cherish His very practical interaction with us.

When an unexpected crisis happens, it can be a challenge to not be overwhelmed by the crashing waves of emotion or pain or grief. Wisdom, faith, and the prayers of the saints become GOD’s raft to ride the waves until we finally have calmer seas.

Surfing

During an extended and particularly difficult crisis for me, one of my friends said she was praying for me to ride the waves with a surfboard. That made me smile — which was her intention, I’m sure — but, later, it made me think.

Surfers aren’t trying to avoid the waves — the waves are the means to surf. They seek out the waves. The bigger, the better.

Not that we seek out the difficult seasons in our lives, but that we know the ride will be an experience we will learn from.

Surfers may tumble, but they learn from it. Surfers see the beauty and danger, then try to find that sweet spot where they can ride the wave to shore.

Am I ready to surf this next wave or will I take the raft? I don’t know. But I am willing to pray that He will show me how to stand up and ride. In the meantime, I have the raft. And that’s okay.

May we ride the waves, my friends.

Do you stand up and surf or hold on tight to the raft?
