Are we intentionally attentive?
TODAY’S PROVERB: …making your ear attentive to wisdom, inclining your heart to discernment… Proverbs 2:2
Intentional attentiveness. That’s what I think of when I read today’s verse.
I was a distracted student. I lived in my head so I missed or overlooked a lot of details. I was, however, quite adept at appearing studious, which of course doesn’t work very well in the long run.
Thanks to our Heavenly Father, as I overcame challenges in my life — emotional, behavioral, and spiritual — paying attention became more real, more intentional.
The difference between intentional attentiveness and distraction is not just listening, it’s also about connection — inclining our heart. It’s about connection with Him. It’s the different between being His student, or sitting on His lap and listening to a Father’s instruction.
Knowing that the Creator of the Universe wants to freely feed us wisdom and knowledge so we can discern and understand His secrets to a life well-lived, is about as compelling as it gets. Don’t you think?
May our ears be attentive and our heart inclined to our Father, my friends.
