Wisdom’s Journey: Proverbs 22:28

Terri GillespieWisdom’s Journey Through Proverbs

Do you know your boundary stone?

TODAY’S PROVERB: Do not move an ancient boundary stone which your fathers set up. Proverbs 22:28

As my husband and I age, our parents have either gone on before us to our Heavenly Father, or are otherwise engaged in making the most of this season of their life.

It occurred to me the other day that Bob, as the eldest son of his parents, and I, as the eldest daughter of my parents, will one day assume the patriarchal and matriarchal roles in our family. This is a serious thing and we must be purposeful in discovering what that means for us.

To begin with, we have chosen to live our lives as followers of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and His Messiah. We have chosen to walk wisdom’s journey. And in all things to do our best to walk in integrity.

Today’s proverb reminds us to also pass on those Godly boundaries.

Verse one of this chapter speaks of how living that life of faith, wisdom, and integrity brings honor to our fathers. To maintain that lifestyle and by teaching our children and children’s children is choosing to pass on our fathers’ good names.

“A good name is to be chosen rather than great wealth,
and grace rather than silver or gold.” Proverbs 22:1

In an ever-changing world, where boundaries shift on whim and evil purpose, maintaining the ancient boundary stone of those tablets given at Mt. Sinai is a great foundation on which to build. Yes, a very good place to begin.

May we keep the ancient boundary stone, my friends.
