Who gives wisdom?
TODAY’S PROVERB: For Adonai gives wisdom. Out of His mouth comes knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6, TLV
Who gives wisdom? Today’s proverb makes that very clear: our Heavenly Father gives wisdom. As a child with learning disabilities, I was convinced I was stupid. Because of my stupidity, I felt like I was letting God down every time I made a foolish mistake. You see, I thought I was the only one who had difficulty reading or that numbers didn’t make sense. I didn’t know that my process for learning was different and that I wasn’t the only one like that — there were others like me. I wasn’t stupid.
It was while in my 30s that I discovered my learning disability while helping my daughter with hers. It was also at about that time I learned from a Seattle pastor that I could be wise by asking my Father for wisdom. I didn’t just ask, I begged Him.

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all without hesitation and without reproach; and it will be given to him.
But, it wasn’t until a Philadelphia rabbi gave a message about HOW to be wise, that my life truly changed. He shared what his father had taught him: read a chapter of Proverbs every day.
God gives wisdom. How does He give it? Through His word. It’s true He gives it throughout Scripture, but Proverbs is special. It’s like a primer to help us understand humanity, politics, relationships, faith, works, and so much more.
Why read every day? Because, I don’t know about you, I need instructions in wisdom each day. Why continue to read — after years, decades? Because we need reminding and because the Holy Spirit will reveal deeper insights as we grow.
How many times have I shared my story? How many times have I encouraged my friends to read and continue to read Proverbs? Lots. And I’ll continue to do this because I love you. It’s one of the wisest thing I can do.
May we remember who gives wisdom and how to receive it, my friends.
