Salt and Light around your neck?
TODAY’S PROVERB: My son, keep your father’s mitzvah [commandment], and forsake not your mother’s teaching. Bind them on your heart continually—tie them around your neck. Proverbs 6:20-21
What we wear around our neck says a lot about us. This area, so close to our heart, is an intimate yet public place of real estate. We may wear a strand of pearls from our great-grandmother. Or a simple little cross. I have two or three necklaces that I rotate. Today I’m wearing a Star of David with a dove tucked inside. When people ask me about the necklace, I am prepared with its story that’s been generously seasoned with salt.
Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, to know how you ought to answer everyone.
Colossians 4:6, TLV
What we wear can be more than a fashion accessory. The necklace can also have meaning. It’s message of salt and light to others and a reminder of our covenants with loved ones and our Heavenly Father. It can begin a story that shares His goodness. It’s can begin a conversation.
It’s a small thing, but it is an intentional marker that God can use to speak His message of love and hope to all who see it.
May what we “bind around our neck” have purpose, my friends.
