Do you snoop?
TODAY’S PROVERB: Do not lurk like the wicked near the dwelling of the righteous. Do not assault his home. Proverbs 24:15, TLV
Snooping. Okay. Associating snooping with this passage may be a stretch, but I believe this is in the spirit of this proverb. It may also poke at some our consciences.
Lurking is defined as: to lie in wait in a place of concealment especially for an evil purpose; to move furtively or inconspicuously.
Snooping is defined as: investigating or looking around furtively in an attempt to find out something, especially information about someone’s private affairs.
And how is furtive defined? It is something we do in a quiet and secretive way to avoid being noticed; expressive of stealth;
obtained underhandedly
Hmm. Pretty similar when you think about it. The intent can be for evil or just being nosy. Either is done in secret and without permission.
That means when we visit someone’s house, if we go through medicine cabinets, drawers, closets, pantries, etc., without permission we are snooping and that’s pretty close to lurking, even if we think we have no evil intent.
Here’s a question: What’s generating that curiosity in us?
There was a survey done a few years ago that found that 40% of our house guests will snoop through our things when the opportunity arises. Honestly, I think that number is low, given the folks who took the survey had to be honest about their responses.
It may seem like a silly or small thing, but what if in our heavenly Father’s eyes, that snooping is an assault on our neighbors’ privacy? That’s a bit scary to think about, don’t you think?
So, next time we visit someone, just say NO to snooping!
May we respect our neighbor’s home, my friends.
