TODAY’S PROVERB: Wisdom has built her house. She has carved out her seven pillars. She has slaughtered her meat, she has mixed her wine; she has also set her table. Proverbs 9:1-2, TLV
Have you ever prepared a great feast — or a nice dinner — and the invited guest didn’t show up? Perhaps they called to cancel. Perhaps they didn’t. How did that feel? Did it make a difference if the guest was a family member?
Preparing a meal for guests isn’t just the time and expense, it’s the anticipation of fellowship. Spending time over good food talking. Catching up with one another. Intentional time to build relationships.
If that guest (family member or not) continues to cancel, after awhile we begin to wonder, “Does this person not want to spend time with me?” The relationship frays because we just don’t know what is really going on with the other person — and they don’t know what is going on with us.
Wisdom prepares a feast for us, every single day! Each chapter of Proverbs holds a lifetime of lessons that keep us on the path of righteousness. And even more than that, it keeps us in fellowship with our Heavenly Father.
Sometimes we might have to cancel — life happens. Be sure that we send our “regrets” by acknowledging that we miss that special time.
If it’s been a long time since we shared a “meal,” perhaps priorities need readjustment.
When I remember that the Creator of the Universe wants to spend time with me, it’s pretty humbling and quite amazing. That His Son gave His life for me, because He loves me, well, that’s Someone I want to spend time with, too. Wisdom is waiting to help me make better choices and live righteously in this world. It’s kind of awesome that we can dine together whenever and wherever we want. And that’s a good thing.
I’ll see you at the feast, my friends.
