Wisdom’s Journey: Proverbs 14:18

Terri GillespieWisdom’s Journey Through Proverbs

Today’s Blog: Naïvety looks good . . . on a child.

TODAY’S PROVERB: The naïve inherit folly, but the prudent are crowned with knowledge. Proverbs 14:18, TLV

Naïvety in a child is precious. They still wear the innocence and wonder of this world like a comfy security blanket. Don’t you sometimes want to crawl under that “blanket?” As parents and teachers, how we wish our child could remain in this sweet place forever. But, that’s not possible. Especially these days.

All too soon, that naïvety disappears and can leave them vulnerable to the world’s teachers. Some whose intents are not about innocence and wonder.

Maybe a little young, but train up our children early.

It’s a tough, dark world out there for all of us. Preparing our children for it means helping them walk their faith, but what is too often forgotten is helping them to walk the wisdom journey. If we don’t, the world will teach them. They will either toughen up or make them a victim.

Teaching a child wisdom wrapped in our Heavenly Father’s love will allow them to grow as little lambs who are wise as serpents, but gentle as doves (Matthew 10:16). Their commitment will be rewarded with discernment and knowledge — tools that will carry them through life. Even in the darkness, they will walk in His Light.

May we teach our children (whether by blood or love) to walk in wisdom, my friends.
