Wisdom’s Journey: Proverbs 18:7

Today’s Blog: Is your timing off?

TODAY’S PROVERB: A fool’s mouth is his ruin, and his lips are a snare to his soul. Proverbs 18:7, TLV

We’ve all done it. Said something foolish. Hurtful. Answered before listening — or thinking. Given advice without knowing all the facts. Taken sides in an argument when we should have remained neutral.

Yes, we’ve all done it. However, if we find ourselves doing it regularly, we may have an issue with timing.

Have you ever heard someone play an instrument and the timing is off? They play all the right notes, but with wonky rhythm the music grates on our senses. We want it to stop!

The same applies to speaking. We can use the perfect words, but at the wrong time.

A musician and singer must practice regularly. The same applies to professional dancers. Over time, they will feel and hear when their timing is off.

It’s the same with us. If we have a timing issue, then it could mean we need to spend more time:

  • in GOD’s word.
  • listening.
  • honing our discernment.
  • learning how to hold our tongue.

Part of living GOD’s word is walking it out in what we say, how we say it, and when – or if – we should say it.

May our lips be GOD’s instruments of His wisdom, my friends.
