Wisdom’s Journey: Proverbs 10:25

Today’s Blog: What is Your Foundation?

TODAY’S PROVERB: When the whirlwind passes, the wicked are no more, but the foundation of the righteous is everlasting. Proverbs 10:25, TLV

I used to think it was just semantics. You know, we all say Jesus is our foundation and then we build on our true foundation which could be anything. For me, for too long, it wasn’t Jesus or even my family, it was my self-worth. As you can imagine, I was a mess. Especially when those “whirlwinds” hit my life.

That useless search for worth really messed with my mind. Any time something bad happened in my life or even the simplest of disappointments, I assumed it meant GOD really didn’t love me. At least, not like other people.

The day I truly accepted my Heavenly Father’s unconditional love, was the day I laid a new foundation.

What is your foundation?

What is your foundation? Are you like me and have laid a unstable foundation? What sustains you in the storms of life? Intellect? Career? Family? Successes?

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house; and yet it did not fall, for its foundation had been built on the rock.”

JESUS, MATTHEW 7:24-25, TLV [EMPHASIS MINE]

We know that our own righteousness is like a filthy rag (Isaiah 64:5). That’s why Yeshua eternally atoned for our sins — those who accept that sacrifice.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

JOHN, 1 JOHN 1:9, NKJV

All this means something amazing! It’s not our righteousness we build on, it’s Yeshua’s! What we build on top is us. Having the Law in our hearts (Jeremiah 31:32), we will build with gold, silver, and precious stones.

“For no one can lay any other foundation than what is already laid—which is Yeshua the Messiah. Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one’s work will become clear. For the Day will show it, because it is to be revealed by fire; and the fire itself will test each one’s work—what sort it is.”

PAUL, 1 CORINTHIANS 3:11-13, TLV

If we build with the important values of life, then when the storms come, our foundation holds up.

And even if what we build upon that sure foundation is a bit straw-like, we know that it’s Jesus’ righteousness that will sustain us for eternity. Not too bad.

May we build on the Sure Foundation, my friends.
