Wisdom’s Journey: Proverbs 12:8

Today’s Blog: That kind of friend . . .

TODAY’S PROVERB: A man is praised according to his insight, but one with a twisted mind is despised. Proverbs 12:8, TLV

She sat me down, looked straight into my eyes, and proceeded to tell me who I was as a writer. It was difficult to listen to her words. Why? Because they were kind words. Encouraging. Complimentary. But, I couldn’t hear them because I didn’t believe them.

Over the years, my dearest friend persisted in this assertion. I may have wavered, but she did not. Why? Because she saw in me what God made.

Do you have people in your life who can see the threads of our Father’s work woven into who you are? Treasure them.

A wise friend operates in the world of insight. Those who live in that place seek the wisdom of the Creator of the Universe. And then, they partner with you to live it out.

Can people who don’t have our best interests have insight? Unfortunately, yes. They may speak enough truth that resonates with us that we think they are friends, but there will be some things that are just off. Watch for their fruit. Do they treat us the same way in which they “encourage” or “compliment” us? Or, do they have their own twisted agendas?

Pray for wisdom and discernment if you sense this in anyone. If the LORD reveals this person has a “twisted mind” — at least where it concerns us — then move on. Forgive. And move on.

In the meantime, those insightful friends? Bake some cookies and send to them along with a thank you. Or give them a call and tell them how much you appreciate their friendship. And then, be that insightful friend to them.

May we seek to be a person of insight, my friends.
