Today’s Blog: See the Danger?
TODAY’S PROVERB: A crafty person sees danger and hides, but the naïve keep going and suffer for it. Proverbs 22:3, TLV
Part of my process in writing these daily blogs is searching for the graphics. It’s a hit and miss pursuit, limited by my artistic abilities. As I meditate on the proverb the Holy Spirit will give me a tidbit of understanding that I pursue like breadcrumbs in a maze. That endeavor can involve me exploring scripture, graphics, or other books.
Sometimes, a graphic will give me chills — in a good way, or a scary way. Today’s graphic was in the scary-way category.
When I first came across the photo, I couldn’t figure out what the lump was in that crystal blue water. A rock? A small island? As I looked closer, there it was, a crocodile. Goosebumps.
And there you have it. The theme of our proverb. The beautiful blue waters from a distance might be inviting us to dive right in, but a pause for a closer inspection would be wise in this and every situation. Whether the danger is visual or not, a person of experience will know to look before they leap.
Whereas a naïve person might be carried away with the desire to enjoy and the unfounded trust that everything will be okay. It’s just a dip in the water.
“Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.“
JESUS, MATTHEW 10:16, TLV
Personally, I’ve taken plunges in dangerous waters more times than I would have liked. As I developed my wisdom muscles, that has hopefully decreased. And, I’ve lived long enough to know that danger, many times, has a pattern. Being crafty — wise as a serpent — has kept me out of difficult situations. How about you?
May we be wise and see the danger, my friends.
