Today’s Blog: Build up our families

TODAY’S PROVERB: An offended brother is more formidable than a fortified city, and quarrels are like the bars of a fortress. Proverbs 18:19, TLV

Is there discord within your family? With parents? Siblings? Children? As the holidays approach, we may dread the get-togethers around the table. Horace is still upset over the money Wilbur owes him. Susie is offended that the family prefers her sister-in-laws recipe for green bean casserole over hers. And the list goes on — for years.

Our Heavenly Father designed the family to be a safe haven — a foundation that can determine who we are. The enemy of our souls loves chipping away at that foundation to eventually destroy it. That destruction maims us sometimes — frankly most times — well into adulthood.

There are toxic families, unfortunately, where our only recourse is to pray — from a safe distance. But, if we’ve had a reasonably “normal” childhood and there are unresolved differences between our family, put in the prayerful effort to resolve it. Learn to laugh again. Remember the good memories. Because this will help us move past the hurt.

During the upcoming holidays, find a way to reconcile and restore relationships. It’s emotional, hard work, but so worth it.

May our families be restored, my friends.
