Today’s Blog: What do we cling to?

I used to believe our circumstances and past experiences determine who we are. Even as a redeemed child of the Most High. Mostly, I think I used that belief as an excuse to not try to change poor behaviors.

There’s no question circumstances attribute to what our future might look like. Yet there are enough stories of people who overcame challenges that seemed insurmountable to me. They overcame and thrived.

That’s what today’s proverb means to me. We all begin this life with life. And that life is the first priceless gift we receive from the Creator of the Universe. The question is: Do we cling to that gift or do we cling to the Giver?

Initially, we all cling to life because it’s all we know to do. Eventually, we can choose to seek the Giver. And finding Him, we can then choose to let Him be our all. Then the real choices begin.

For me, I’ve learned that clinging to my life has pitfalls. The bad things that happened I will cling to, as well as the good. When I learned to cling to the Giver, I received the strength and healing to overcome those horrible things. He would even use them to advance His work in my life and others.

This proverb also reminds me that wisdom is another gift. We can make the decision to utilize this gift or leave it unopened or underutilized. It’s a tool our Father has equipped us with to overcome what challenges and bad circumstances did to our hearts. To help us move on from the past. Then, help us to make wise choices in the future.

It’s all pretty amazing if we think about it. And, in this season, that’s a good thing.
