Today’s Blog: Dehydrated?
TODAY’S PROVERB: Wise instruction is a fountain of life, turning one away from snares of death. Proverbs 13:14, TLV
Water is a transparent, tasteless, odorless, and nearly colorless chemical substance, which is the main component of our planet’s hydrosphere, and the fluids of most living organisms. It is vital for all known forms of life, even though it provides no calories or organic nutrients. Other than humanity, it is arguably one of our Creator’s greatest creations.
As clever as scientists may be, there is no substitute for water, without using, well, water.
Wise instruction is a fountain of life — it is living waters flowing from the fount of the Creator of the Universe. We may think we can replicate or find other solutions for the challenges of life, but, folks, I’m a living testimony that it won’t work.
Studying, living, and exploring God’s wisdom each day replenishes us in ways we may not see for years.
We may think words provide minimal value, but let’s remember that the solar system was spoken into existence with a simple, “Then God said.” (Genesis 1:1-31) Or, that the Savior of the world — the promised Messiah — was the Word made flesh and tabernacled [lived among] with us. (John 1:14)
We need wisdom like water . . .
What happens when we don’t drink enough water? Initially, we have symptoms of dehydration like headaches, craving sugar, sleepiness, muscle cramps, lack of concentration. Continue dehydration and it’s a painful death.
As followers of Jesus, we need to remember that the abundant life we’ve been promised (John 10:10) is because we “eat” and “drink” properly. Remember all those dietary laws God laid down for the Children of Israel? Our Father told Israel that if they abide by these commandments and decrees they wouldn’t get the diseases of Egypt (Exodus 15:26). Was this a supernatural thing because they were obedient? Nope.
It was simple cause and affect. Follow the dietary and sanitary laws and you won’t get sick. Which is why over the centuries when whole towns died of dysentery or polluted waters or diseased animals, the Jewish population didn’t.
When we “eat” and “drink” His word, as our daily spiritual sustenance, we will be healthy. And wise. And have that abundant life of service and love and joy. It’s simple, right? Living it will always take effort. Ah, but so worth it.
May we “eat” and “drink” all that our Father serves us, my friends.
