Today’s Blog: Is there a “Bob” in your life?
TODAY’S PROVERB: The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son gives joy to his father, but a foolish son grief to his mother. Proverbs 10:1, TLV
It’s my hubby, Bob’s birthday! I believe he exemplifies the wise son in this verse — although he would never say that about himself. No doubt he was a joy to his mother and father. I witnessed that joy and love in their eyes. His wisdom is gentle and kind. But, that’s just a small part of who Bob is.
Bob works hard. He’s a good provider. He served our country in the U.S. Navy for five years. Over half of those years were away from his family.
As a result, during the course of his engineering career, he made difficult choices to place his family above his opportunities for promotion. More than anything he wanted to be there for his wife and daughter. Which meant he had to watch others move on to better positions.
Favor with God and man
Yet, our Heavenly Father blessed Bob with favor among his supervisors, peers, and those he mentored. Eventually, our Father opened the doors for Bob to retire early. And when his co-workers celebrated him at his retirement party, many cried — men, included. They would miss Bob’s smile, encouragement, and humor each day.
Bob was prudent with our resources — even when I was not. He did what was necessary to take care of his family with integrity and hard work.
My husband is loved for his kind heart, humor, and selflessness.
It’s an honor . . .
It is an honor to be married to Bob. And today, especially, I am grateful that GOD brought him into this world, and into my life . . . way back in pre-kindergarten.
Does that mean my husband is perfect? No. But, he’s perfect for me. And he continues to strive to seek the LORD for wisdom. He pursues righteousness and to be the man His Heavenly Father created him to be. It’s why I know that Bob also brings joy to both his earthly father, father-in-love, and his heavenly Father.
Are there “Bobs” in your life?
A “Bob” can be anywhere in your life. They can be a spouse, child, grandchild, parent, friend, neighbor . . . Someone who brings joy to your heart. A person who’s dependable, funny, wise, loving, and knows you — sees you.
If you’re not sure whether or not you have a “Bob,” ask the LORD to point him/her out. Or, to bring a “Bob” into your life. Then, thank the LORD for those folks. Remember those precious souls and celebrate them with a thank you call, a card, a cupcake — something to remind them that they have been a blessing in your life. And maybe, just maybe, we can be a “Bob” to someone, too.
That’s what I’m going to do. Happy birthday, honey.
May we celebrate our “Bobs” today, my friends.
