Today’s Blog: How do You Walk?
TODAY’S PROVERB: The one who walks uprightly fears Adonai, but one devious in his ways despises Him. Proverbs 14:2, TLV
When I read this proverb, I have this image of two people walking. One walks upright, eyes forward, arms swinging, and moves with purpose. Although they are exposed, they know they have nothing to hide. They look forward to their destination, yet enjoy the scenery as they go along.
The second walker hunches over, concealing what they don’t want others to know or see. They caste furtive glances around and behind themselves because they have left a trail of deceit. They live in fear that they will be discovered. It’s not long before they decide to travel in the opposite direction as the first walker.
The devious walker makes many stops to satisfy their own needs. They believe they can hide their sinful ways, but they don’t realize there is One who knows. Each sin adds another burden to their souls. They look for anything that will relieve them of their weight — this pain — except the One who can set them free.
A righteous “walker” lives without burdens, because forgiveness liberates them. An uncomplicated walk is free of guile and control. If burdens encumber them, then they seek the One who can set them free.
The journey may have trials and challenges, but the righteous soul encounters them in freedom and faith. They walk in the knowledge that they are not alone.
