Today’s Blog: Are we Fixing or Following?
TODAY’S PROVERB: so they will eat the fruit of their own way and be filled with their own schemes. Proverbs 1:31, TLV
As schools and businesses stand empty, we’re all searching. For those of us who follow the GOD of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and His Son, Jesus, we search for His insights, His guidance, His wisdom. So, today, as we symbolically roll back the “scroll” of Proverbs to chapter one, we know that each chapter will contain fresh insights, guidance, and wisdom.
Are we filled with our own schemes? Is our mind filled with our own plans? Do we eat the bitter fruit of our missteps and mistakes? And sins?
There’s a syndrome that I call: “If this happens, then I need to figure out how to fix it.” Living in a place of trying to figure out what could happen and then foolishly scheming or planning how to fix it is exhausting!
The reality . . .
If anything this pandemic teaches us is that we can’t figure this out. Scientifically, we can identify this coronavirus as COVID-19, we can identify symptoms, but there are no schemes we can cobble together to fix the pain, sorrow, the loss, confusion, or the life-altering changes.
Every time we attempt to fix our problems — or others — it may initially give us a sense of control, but eventually, it creates anxiety and fear.
The only fix comes from the Creator of the Universe. Only He who had already seen this pandemic from the beginning of time, knows how to navigate this season. The amazing thing is He holds in His hands, whatever it is that we need.
“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them shall fall to the ground apart from your Father’s consent. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not fear; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
JESUS ENCOURAGING DISCIPLES BEFORE HE SENDS THEM OUT, MATTHEW 10:29-31, TLV
If we’re feeling fearful or anxious right now, know that we just need to shift our focus on the right “fixer” of our life. Ask our Father to help us fix our eyes on Him, and not the terrors around us (Psalm 91). That we eat the fruits of His way — peace, joy, grace, mercy, hope, wisdom — and abide there in contentment.
As we dig deeper into His wisdom, may we pay attention to all our Father has for us.
May we eat the sweet fruit of GOD’s wisdom, my friends.
