Today’s Blog: Take Stock in Wisdom?
TODAY’S PROVERB: For her trade-value is better than silver, and her yield better than fine gold. Proverbs 3:14, TLV
It’s interesting to note that the translators and scholars of the Tree of Life Version (TLV) used “trade-value” and “yield.” These are investment stock terms. With the current pandemic, the stock market has plummeted, which can send shivers down the spine — especially for those whose income is dependent upon them.
It’s not coincidental that stock trading employs wisdom. Traders who are wise and have integrity and experience, are trustworthy. No matter the markets, they do well for their clients. And one of the ways they help their clients is to explain that trends come and go. But good trade-value will yield ultimately.
Hubby and I attended an online seminar recently. The instructor had decades of experience and nearly 75 years of analytics that demonstrated how the worst thing one could do in the current situation, is panic and sell. Maintaining a cool head and watching how each product reacts to circumstance — which the trader is adept at doing — will minimize any losses.
It will look scary, but over time, it will right itself. And in most circumstances yield better.
A lot less complicated . . .
Fortunately for all of us, wisdom is a lot less complicated, yet it yields so much more. It’s value is in the fact that GOD’s wisdom knows how to operate in this world. Why? Because GOD created this world, and His wisdom is built to operate in it.
A trustworthy trader of stocks, bonds, annuities, etc., employs the knowledge they’ve learned through experience and mentors. If they aren’t prudent, if they’re not observant, they will miss the subtle signs of trouble, or the elusive indicators of opportunities for growth. They must live their knowledge and pursuit of wisdom, every single day.
I don’t know about you, but I need to be reminded of not only the basics of wisdom, but also the subtle nuances to help me through unique challenges that occur in my life. Like living in a world with COVID-19. Having mentors and teachers there to remind and coach me is part of the Wisdom Journey.
The imagery of stock values also reminds us of the parable of the “talents.” (Matthew 25:14-30; Luke 19:12-27) There is “risk” in growth. But, by employing wisdom, we can be watchful for those opportunities to grow our talents for GOD’s kingdom. Whether we double or triple our talents, we’re expanding His yield in this world. And that is good for all.
May we take stock in wisdom’s yield, my friends.
