Today’s Blog: What’s That You Say?
TODAY’S PROVERB: Incline your ear and listen to the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my knowledge. Proverbs 22:17, TLV
I used to have incredible hearing. A dog barking down the street, a bird in a neighbor’s tree, my father’s car coming down the street — all from inside our home. I could hear it clearly.
Likewise, if I was in a noisy room full of kids, I could pick out my daughter’s voice from across the room. However, a room full of adults having various conversations was a challenge for me. Why? Because I could hear them all and it was difficult to focus.
These days, I have to work hard to hear someone in a noisy room or if they’re some distance away. I can’t trust what I think I hear. I either have to get closer or ask the person to repeat what they said — sometimes several times.
Fortunately, my hearing loss has been a helpful object lesson for today’s proverb.
If you’re new to the Proverbs’ journey and have struggled with making wise decisions, begin with listening.
Are there folks in your life that have walked wisdom’s journey for some time? Incline your ear toward them. Learn from them. Ask questions.
There are many “voices” around us babbling their “wisdom.” If we can’t recognize true wisdom it’s because we don’t know its voice. Incline your ear toward GOD’s word — study Proverbs, Psalms and see where else His Holy Spirit takes you.
It’s all about intentional listening — inclining our spiritual ears to Him. Don’t worry, He doesn’t mind repeating Himself.
May we incline our ears, my friends.
