When my troubling thoughts multiply within me,
Your consolations comfort my soul. Psalm 94:19, TLV

Star Trek, 1967, The Trouble with Tribbles

I live in my head. It’s helpful as an author, but can be  detrimental to my emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Do you know what I mean? Today’s verse describes me a little too accurately. If left unchecked, my troubling thoughts will multiply.

Sometimes, I will talk out a concern and discover it isn’t as bad as I first thought. Other times, I’ll try to ignore it only to have it resurface like a stone and cause me to stumble.

If I say: “My foot has slipped,”
Your mercy, Adonai, will hold me up. (vs. 18, TLV)

The most effective way to keep my troubling thoughts from growing and mutating inside my mind and imagination is to simply seek His counsel. His comfort. I say it’s simple, but it can be anything but easy. Why? Probably because we think we can or should be able to figure out everything.

So, we go to our Heavenly Father for every little thing? Maybe. If you’re like me where troubling thoughts multiply like tribbles, my brain is so occupied with sorting things, I forget that my Dad is right there to comfort my soul.

Yes, comfort my soul. How about you?

Shabbat shalom.
