Do you enjoy spooky movies?

Not horror, but stories that make us snuggle in, ready to be taken for a rollercoaster ride of thrills and suspense. This month’s A2A author, Jaime Jo Wright gives that same experience with her novels! Oh my, yes!

For my readers who’ve never experienced a Jaime Jo Wright book, you’re going to be chomping at the bit to grab one . . . or two . . . or eleven!

Here are some fun facts about this amazing author:

Jaime Jo is the author of eleven novels, including Christy Award and Daphne du Maurier Award-winner The House on Foster Hill and Carol Award winner The Reckoning at Gossamer Pond. She’s also a two-time Christy Award finalist, as well as the ECPA bestselling author of The Vanishing at Castle Moreau and two Publishers Weekly bestselling novellas. Jaime lives in Wisconsin with her family and felines.

She will tell you that she is the coffee-fueled and cat-fancier extraordinaire, has entwined her life with the legendary Captain Hook, residing serenely in Wisconsin’s rural woodlands. Two mischievous urchins adorn their family, who keep their mother on her toes – providing an exhilarating amount chaos. (Foo the Feline makes an entrance during the YouTube Interview)

Her literary vocation involves penning chilling Christian Gothic tales [Yes! This is a real thing!], a baffling change from that of Austen-ites, with a strong preference to the master of dark, Edgar Allan Poe. And . . . Scooby Doo. (see the YouTube Interview)

Her Latest Release

Hailed as “a trailblazer extraordinaire” in suspense by Booklist, Jaime Jo Wright delivers a quintessential haunted house tale in her latest release, Night Falls on Predicament Avenue. Revolving around the house on 322 Predicament Avenue and all its long-held, chilling secrets, Wright’s fans will be delighted by this story reminiscent of her beloved and bestselling novel, The House on Foster Hill (2017). Wright never fails to deliver a uniquely haunting dual-time plot, and those who love a good scare  and a surprisingly hopeful and inspirational ending will take to Night Falls on Predicament Avenue with ease.

This latest release follows on the heels of Jaime’s incredible book, The Lost Boys of Barlowe Theater. Probably one of my top five all-time reads, The Lost Boys of Barlowe Theater tics all the boxes, plus has one of the strongest justice messages that I’ve read so far. I highly recommend.

Let’s get to know Jaime and her new book a bit more . . .

What inspired you to write your new novel Night Falls on Predicament Avenue?

This story evolved after I read a newspaper article from the late nineteenth century about a house that was discovered with a horrific crime scene but no victim. That led me into the deep, dark recesses of how it might work when there’s obviously been a crime, and yet there’s no one left to grieve and no one to punish. Thus developed the mystery around 322 Predicament Avenue and all that comes with it.

A hallmark of your uniquely crafted novels is the effect of the ending on the reader. Can you explain what sets your novels apart from other suspense/thriller novels in the genre?

My novels are different in that the endings don’t just resolve. Instead, they leave the reader with a spark of hope, which isn’t something you typically find in a novel of this genre. I want to write real characters, those who are relatable and authentic with both internal and external
complications beyond the thrill, something readers can grab hold of and say “Yeah, that’s me!” I want to leave the reader with the thought, “Maybe there can be hope at the end of the horror.” I think that’s important, hope.

Who is your favorite character—protagonist or antagonist—and why?

I really enjoyed writing Mr. Anderson. He was just different as a hero. More stiff and reserved but carry a lot of internal emotion from grief and urgency that was trying hard to break free.

What are you working on now?

I’m working on my Spring 2025 release set in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with a haunted lighthouse!

I say, “Awesome! Sounds delicious!”

A friend once asked me, “What are you passionate about? So passionate that you cry out and pound your fist on the table?” What is your pound-on-the-table passion?

Wow. Hmm… I’m not sure, to be honest. I’m not a very demonstrative person when it comes to passionate topics. LOL! Probably my kids, though. I’ll go all mama bear and quickly morph into an abashed psychopath if my kids are threatened. LOL

Duly Noted, Jaime! I think there are more than a few mama bears out there, so you’re in good company.
