Daily Word: Arise and shine!

Terri GillespieDaily Word

Nations will come to your light, kings to the brilliance of your rising. Isaiah 60:3, TLV

Who will all these nations and kings be drawn to? Israel. Chapter 60 follows an incredible chapter of redemption. “A Redeemer will come to Zion, and to those in Jacob who turn from transgression.” (Isaiah 59:20, TLV) The LORD God Almighty is encouraging a beleaguered Israel who has suffered great tribulation because of their sin, to arise and shine! (Isaiah 60:1) Despite the fact that the darkness has covered the earth and its people (vs. 2), God’s glory will appear and nations and kings will be drawn to His glory.

Yes, these passages are about Israel. And we’ve seen various levels of fulfillment of these passages — the most spectacular being the birth of the Messiah in Bethlehem — but in tiny microcosms all over the world, it happens every day.

The Light of the World

Light can best be seen in darkness. The human eye is drawn to light. Is the Light of the World (John 8:12) shining bright in us?

There’s no question darkness has invaded many souls. They do terrible things in that darkness. But they are trapped. When we allow the Light to shine in us, souls are either blinded are drawn to it.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead, they put it on a lampstand so it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men so they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

YESHUA, MATTHEW 5:14-16, TLV [EMPHASIS MINE]

All those little acts of kindness we do, can shine a light. Our commitment to follow the Light of the World, means we become lights. Even though it is scary out there, we can’t hide our light. Because that light and those good works will glorify our Father in heaven. How exciting!

How do you shine your light?
