Now without faith it is impossible to please God. For the one who comes to God must believe that He exists and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. Hebrews 11: 6, TLV
Faith. Hebrews 11 is the “By Faith” chapter. The writer gives an historical account of those who lived by faith. Were they perfect? Goodness, no. However, in their heart of hearts they wanted to serve and please God. They may not have always understood what that entailed. Or they may have understood, but needed some hand-holding. But, they sought to please God.
How do we please someone? Give them what we think they want? Or, give them what they desire? The same applies to pleasing God.
Please or appease?
Is this appeasing God? No, appeasing means to pacify or placate (someone) by acceding to their demands. Pleasing God simply means to cause Him to feel happy and satisfied. The only way we can do that is to know what is important to Him. How do we know what is important to the Creator of the Universe? We learn through His word. We consider all those who live and who have lived by faith.
So, the writer of Hebrews has given us insights into how we can learn from great men and women of faith. There are others around us that we can learn from. Those who model faith. Because they, too, have learned, it is impossible to please our Heavenly Father without faith.
Who models faith to you?
