If anyone acknowledges that Yeshua is Ben-Elohim [Jesus is the Son of God], God abides in him and he abides in God. 1 John 4:15, TLV
Okay. This is a bit mind-blowing. God — the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — abides in us when we acknowledge Jesus is the Son of God. I mean, we as followers of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, we theoretically know that, but how often do we sit and ponder that?
And, I think that’s my takeaway today. Abiding.
Two Types of Abiding
Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines the Biblical context of abide as remaining stable or fixed in a state a love that ‘abided with him all his days.” 2 : to continue in a place : sojourn will abide in the house of the Lord. abide by.
Then it goes on to define abide in its modern-day definition: 1 : to conform to abide by the rules. 2 : to accept without objection : to acquiesce in will abide by your decision.
Hmm. That modern-day definition is the typical worldview of us believers, don’t you think? All we’re about is conformity and blind acceptance of rules and regulations. In reality, we remain stable and fixed in a state of love. That’s where we long to remain all our days. Our obedience is interwoven into that state of love.
Abiding in Him and Him abiding in us — in a stable, fixed state of love. I abide by that.
