His invisible attributes—His eternal power and His divine nature—have been clearly seen ever since the creation of the world, being understood through the things that have been made. So people are without excuse— Romans 1:20, TLV [emphasis mine]
We’ve probably all said it at one time or another as we gaze upon a majestic scene — mountains, ocean, the sky, a newborn child — “Isn’t God amazing!” But, until today, after over 40 years of reading the Bible, I never noticed Paul’s little remark at the end of this verse. “So people are without excuse–” Yes!
Sometimes, I think we keep our heads down so low and deep into our own concerns, we create our own world. A world filled with angst and fear with feeble attempts at happiness. When all around us is wonder and pure confirmation of His eternal power and divine nature.
When we limit our scope of wonder to our own plans and anxiousness, we miss what has been clearly visible since the creation of the world. So, those amazing invisible attributes are visible in the sunrise, trees whispering in the breeze, a child’s laughter, the crashing of waves, a starry night. They are all around us.
The next time our own world we have pasted together with fear and greed and anxiousness comes crashing down on us, let’s kick it to the curb and go outside and take a deep breath of what’s real. All the while knowing, His attributes are there all around us. How cool is that!
