An anxious heart weighs one down, but a good word cheers him up. Proverbs 12:25, TLV
And so it begins. Thanksgiving. Hanukkah. Christmas. The most anxious time of the year. But does it have to be? Depends. Those things we’re responsible for, and our responses to others, yes, we can. Here are a couple of questions to ask ourselves before or when anxiety overpowers the joy of the season and family:
- Do I have to do this?
- Why am I doing this?
- Is there an easier way?
- Which is more important, a perfectly decorated home, or fellowship with loved ones?
- Are we seeking compliments, or a peaceful environment?
- Five years from now, what will be the most memorable part of your holiday? Food? or Family?
You can probably add to this list as well. I know I will.
Do not be anxious about anything—but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.
PHILIPPIANS 4:6, TLV
