Of David. Adonai is my light and my salvation: whom should I fear? Adonai is the stronghold of my life: whom should I dread? Psalm 27:1, TLV
There seems to be a lot of fear and dreading going around these days. Fear of contracting COVID-19. Dread that the people we want in office won’t be elected. Fear for the future. I know I can step into the fear and dread tarpit, how about you? Fear can make us act out in ways we would normally never do. Do we have a choice?
But, that’s what fear and dread are — a place we choose to go. Admittedly, there are a lot of scary things going on. Threats all around us. It’s okay for us to acknowledge them, and the fear they generate in us, fortunately, we don’t have to remain in the muck and mire. How do we remove ourselves?
Prayer. Trust. Faith.
Prayer: we pray hard against the frightening potential and reality. Trust: we trust that our Heavenly Father has heard us and He will answer according to His will. Faith: we walk out that He is our light and salvation and our only stronghold is Him.
Seems simple. Not really. Nevertheless, it is critical for us in this challenging season.
