Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of realities not seen. Hebrews 11:1, TLV
Without it, it is impossible to please God, as we see later in this chapter (verse 6). So what is faith? Today’s verse is our definition. Faith has substance — even when there is no reality or possibility of that hope being fulfilled. But, this faith isn’t wispy hopefulness, this faith has history. A history of fulfillment over thousands of years.
Reading through chapter 11 might not be as encouraging as we would like. Not everyone received their promises in their lifetime. However, it depends upon how we look at the promise. When God promises, He fulfills; when He gives a timeline for the promise He fulfills. If we don’t know the timeline — and God has given us a promise — then we meditate on the evidence that God’s promises have been fulfilled. Fulfilled, even if we witness it in heaven and not on earth. And then, we trust that this is okay.
Our life is a continuity of promise. From birth to walking the streets of gold. It’s all in how we see it.
