An oppressive leader lacks judgment. One who hates unjust gain will prolong his life. Proverbs 28:16, TLV
4 Tips to Make Better Decisions. When I read this proverb, I think of someone with integrity. They hate unjust gain—someone who robs, steals, commits fraud. Choosing to have integrity is not easy. We think the choices to be honest and true are obvious, but sometimes, it can be difficult to see.
One thing for sure, living in integrity takes diligence. And diligence takes time. Sometimes it takes attention to detail. Not every day. Not all the time. Just enough that we can’t assume the choice before us is “straight-forward.” There may be more going on than meets the proverbial eye. My daughter continues to school me in this—for which I’m grateful and proud.
Before we become worried or fearful we’ll overlook some microscopic detail and make a wrong decision, know that our Heavenly Father has systems in place to protect us from making a bad choice.
Things like:
- Prayer: with prayer, the following steps become greater and more powerful.
- His Word: especially Proverbs. I don’t know the number of times the proverb chapter that day contained what I needed to determine which direction to go.
- Friends: those friends who are tried and true. They know the word. Live the word. And, they know us. They can be the fresh eye or perspective we need to really hear from the LORD.
- Clergy/Counselor/Mentor: in the same way as our friends, they can also counsel. They’ve seen more things than we’ll ever know. Their experience and insights can be very helpful.
If we begin with these four steps, making the right decision among many options that “seem” viable, will be easier. It’s worth every prayer, consult, and effort to live a life of integrity.
Think More About It

Until tomorrow, may we be diligent, my friends.
There’s a lot of false information on both sides of the war in Israel. Before we react—especially on social media—please search out the truth. There are certain mandates in Scripture concerning Israel and the Jewish people, pray into those if things become confusing. God bless you!
