Like a fluttering sparrow or a flying swallow, so an undeserved curse does not land. Proverbs 26:2, TLV
A Study of Words. Words have power. Whether we speak them, others speak them, or the Creator of the Universe speaks them, words can change, destroy, or save us. Our words can encourage or instill fear. We can take toxic words into our soul or GOD’s words of truth. It’s our choice.
If you have any doubts as to the power of words, here’s what the Bible says.
Words spoke the universe into being.
By ADONAI’s [the LORD’s] word were the heavens made, and all their host by the breath of His mouth. Psalm 33:6, TLV
Our Messiah, the Savior to the world, was the Word made flesh.
In the beginning was the Word. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. All things were made through Him, and apart from Him nothing was made that has come into being. John 1:1-3, TLV
Words ushered sin into the world.
But the serpent was shrewder than any animal of the field that ADONAI Elohim [the LORD God] made. So, it said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from all the trees of the garden’?” Genesis 1:1, TLV
But we can overcome.
They overcame [the enemy] by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives even in the face of death. Revelation 12:11, TLV
For those who don’t believe that curses have power, read the book of Deuteronomy. Those who aren’t covered through the blood atonement of Jesus, are susceptible to these and the curses spoken of in today’s proverb.
We are protected against random and purposeful curses. Today’s passage says they are like tiny birds fluttering around us, but they won’t land because they are afraid of us.
Caution vs. Fear
Does that mean we can be cavalier about curses? No. But, we shouldn’t be fearful.
When we made the decision to trust in GOD alone, we inherited His enemies. There will always be some battle going on. Therefore, we need to be cautious and observant, just as we would if we were crossing a busy intersection.
Just know this, the victory was already hard-won. And our loving Abba has given us tools and each other to battle together. Wearing the Armor He has provided for us is a great first step (Ephesians 6:10-20).
Ultimately, we win. We are victorious. Coronavirus or whatever the enemy of our souls has up his sleeve, we win. And that’s good news, my friends.
