…yes, if you call out for insight, lifting up your voice for discernment… Proverbs 2:3, TLV
Call Out! Cry for It! Have you ever called out for insight? Cried out for discernment? I sure did. With reading and math disabilities, I made a lot of mistakes because of a lack of knowledge and confidence—as I’ve shared in the past. Even today, I still pray for wisdom and discernment when certain challenges arise.
What’s great about this type of request is that our Heavenly Father has only one answer . . . Yes!
“But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all without hesitation and without reproach; and it will be given to him.” Jacob (James), 1:5, TLV
However, when I first began praying this prayer, and I still struggled with making wise decisions. I wondered what happened. Was I the only exception to the James verse—was God saying, “Nope, Terri.”?
Then, a wise pastor in Kent, Washington instructed us to read a chapter of Proverbs each day. For the rest of our life, whenever possible. Every day? Well, I tried, then would forget in the busy-ness of life. Honestly, it wasn’t a priority, until the troubles began again.
But let him ask in faith, without any doubting—for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord—he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. Jacob (James), 1:6-8, TLV
Double-minded? Yikes! I hadn’t focused on the verses that followed James 1:5. I took that verse out of context. (Ahem. Now you know one of the reason I’m such a stickler for context.)
A few years later when we moved to the Philadelphia area, a Messianic rabbi said the same thing—read a chapter of Proverbs each day for the rest of your life. His father had taught him to do this.
So, I began the Wisdom Journey with intention—singlemindedness. Not simply a study, but as a lifestyle. My husband joined the journey.
That’s when our life truly changed for the better.
Are you ready to join the Journey? We sure love the company.
May we call out for insight and discernment, my friends, with singlemindedness, because His answer is, “Yes!”
