Fight the good fight of faith! Take hold of the eternal life—you were called to it, and you made the good confession for it in the presence of many witnesses.  1 Timothy 6:12, TLV

Grab Hold of the Eternal!  Wow. I love that: Take hold of the eternal life. There is something profound in Paul’s instructions to his spiritual son, Timothy, that might shift our paradigm for today.

If we think about what concerned us when we were six years old, as opposed to today, then we understand just a tiny bit of the eternal perspective. What controlled our thoughts and emotions back then, may seem inconsequential, even frivolous today. Yet even though our desires seem silly now, they were still important to our Heavenly Father. Why? Because we are important to Him, and He knows the destination of our journey. How life-changing it would be to grab hold of our Father’s eternal perspective!

What could happen if we grabbed hold of the eternal? Maybe:

  • Understanding that what we think is so important today, in time, may seem frivolous or unnecessary in the future.
  • If we knew that the things we desire/pray for may take time, it might be easier to be more patient.
  • Investing in others would be more common because we understand change won’t happen immediately, but in GOD’s time.
  • We can deepen our trust in our eternal GOD — our Father, the Creator of the Universe.
  • As an example, we can demonstrate to our children that even though they don’t have the newest, latest, best whatever they are not missing out. Because GOD may have something better waiting for us and we might miss it being impatient.
  • Perhaps taking hold of the eternal life is to keep the holy perspective. The things that are of God.
  • Ultimately, it could seal our faith that GOD’s will be done.

So, when concerns control our thoughts and feelings, look toward the eternal. To what we made good confession. That GOD loved us so much, He sent His Son to die for us. He is enough forever.

That’s a good place to begin, anyway. Knowing we have His love makes fighting the good fight easier. Besides, we were called to the eternal life. Yes?

Shabbat Shalom!
