Gray hair is a crown of glory, found on the path of righteousness. Proverbs 16:31, TLV
Gray Hair a Crown of Glory? Really? The appearance of gray–or white–hair on our heads is no guarantee that wisdom will simply emanate from us. Sigh. That was rather disappointing news for me, especially as more and more of those silver strands glisten in the mirror. And tomorrow marks another year in this body on this earth.
What is guaranteed for those on the path of righteousness is a crown of glory hard-won by a Savior who gave His life for us.
We only wear this crown of glory because of Him. When we make our own hard-won wise life decisions that crown settles more comfortably atop our spiritual noggins. Not because our salvation depends upon it, but because we choose to make those decisions out of love and respect for our Heavenly Father.
And those crowns of glory? I was thinking. We also have another choice. To keep them or give them to the One who sacrificed it all.
“. . . And they throw their crowns down before the throne, chanting,
“Worthy are You, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
For You created all things,
and because of Your will
they existed and were created!” Revelation 4:10b-11
Giving our Heavenly Father and His Son our crowns is a wise thing, don’t you think? And, I’m sure He’ll let us keep the gray hair.
Think More About It
How does you crown sit?
Until tomorrow–in hope–may we wear our gray well, my friends.
Praying for Israel
… what is man, that You are mindful of him?
And the son of man, that You care for him?
Yet You made him a little lower than the angels,
and crowned him with glory and majesty!
You gave him dominion over the works of Your hands.
You put all things under their feet … Psalm 8:5-7, TLV
It’s fascinating to be how scriptures–especially prophecies–can have multi-faceted meanings and purposes. This passage is one of them. There are Messianic tones and exhortations for humanity and the Jewish people. So, why not pray this passage as many times as you feel inspired. Rejoice that our Messiah came. Reminders of His love. Exhortations for our stewardship over the works of His hands. Amen. God bless you.
