A slacker is wiser in his own eyes than seven people who answer sensibly. Proverbs 26:16, TLV
Is There a Slacker in Your Life? Resting is actually a necessary part of hard work. And yet, figuring out complex ways to get out of work is not wisdom.
A wise person is always working in one form or another, even if they are resting, retired, or are physically unable to work. They may work on developing relationships. Invent ways of being more efficient in their labors. Give of their time to others. They seek the Lord for ways to live out their calling whatever the circumstances.
If there are obstacles, they seek to push through.
A slacker is more than someone who is lazy. They definitely avoid work, but they have no sense of direction and feel justified in this state. They have dreams and have the potential but don’t push through to accomplish them.
Slackers, on the other hand, seek their own agendas and feel they are cleverer than the wise who diligently work. They live in the fog of their own indulgence. Or of their own paralyzing fears. They can justify even the inanest of behaviors and are eager to express them. They are always making excuses for being late, paying late, and lacking in accountability and responsibility.
Slackers produce no fruit. They have nothing to offer in this state. And it’s a shame because most slackers have a good brain—it takes intelligence to manipulate others to accept their behavior.
The problem is, we need every able body to work in God’s Kingdom.
Is There Hope?
Is there hope for a slacker or lazy person? Absolutely! If a slacker could see past their own needs to the needs of others, they would enter the path of deliverance and breakthroughs. And that would be a good thing for everyone.
Think More About It
Do you know slackers? Were you once a slacker? How did you overcome it?
Until tomorrow, may we diligently seek to work in wisdom, my friends.
Praying for Israel
Deliver me from my enemies, my God!
Set me on high,
away from those who rise up against me.
Deliver me from workers of iniquity.
Rescue me from bloodthirsty men.
For behold, they lie in wait for me.
Defiant men stir up strife against me—
not for my transgression or sin, ADONAI [LORD]. Psalm 59:2-4, TLV
This psalm was written by David thousands of years ago, and yet it is as relevant today as back then. So, let’s pray for Israel and those we love. God bless you.
