Whoever troubles his own household will inherit wind, and the fool will be a servant to the wise-hearted. Proverbs: 11:29, TLV

Is Your Home a Refuge or a Battleground?     Before I begin this little devotion, our family wishes your family Chag Semeach—Happy Holiday. At sundown the holy festival, Yom Kippur—the Day of Atonement—begins. Leviticus 23 speaks of how Yom Kippur is “celebrated” and Hebrews 2 speaks of its fulfillment through the death and resurrection of the Passover Lamb—Yeshua. May this be a time of reflection and gratitude.

Our home should be a safe place for us to be who we are — and a safe place to grow into who our Heavenly Father created us to be. Our home should reflect the Father’s heart: love, peace, compassion, faith, discipline, forgiveness, service, hope, joy, and comfort.

These building blocks create a home anyone would be proud of — regardless of the size and age of the building we live in. These are the attributes that will weather any of life’s storms.

The Test

After a long day of work, school, or even errands, the moment we enter our home we should feel the difference. Even if the kids are rowdy and the dinner burnt, we know there’s no other place we’d rather be on this earth.

And when one of our loved ones comes home, it would be a moment of joy, as if an honored guest has arrived.

All this takes work. Hard work to keep our home safe. So, we roll up our sleeves and work together to keep our home a sanctuary of purpose.

Our Legacy

Yeshua answered, “The first is, ‘Shema Yisrael, ADONAI Eloheinu, ADONAI echad. Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One. And you shall love ADONAI your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:29-31, TLV

Love God. Love others. One of the greatest legacies we can give our family is a home filled with the love of GOD and love for each other. To live out that love and teach them how to create their own sanctuary is a priceless inheritance.

Think More About It

How have you created a legacy? Or, how are you creating a legacy for your family?

Until tomorrow, may our home be filled with love, my friends.

Teach me Your way, ADONAI,
and lead me on a level path—
because of my enemies.
Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes.
For false witnesses rise up against me,
breathing out violence. Proverbs 27:11-12, TLV

Have you ever noticed how a crisis can cause us to forget? Medical professionals excel in crises because they have been trained. It because both a mental and physical part of them. They are able to do miraculous seemingly impossible tasks without thinking because of that training. Today, let’s pray that Israel, her people, and us will learn to seek the LORD in deeper ways than ever before. That we all would bear an indelible understanding of how to move forward in any crisis. Yes? Shabbat Shalom and g’mar chatima tovah [a good final sealing (in the Book of Life)].
