“…just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:28, TLV
Is Your Service Too Slow? Do you feel more comfortable as the server or the served? Being served feels uncomfortable for me most times. Perhaps it is because of passages such as this. Or, perhaps I question my self-worth. It could even be because I prefer being in control. Maybe, it’s a bit of everything.
Or perhaps we are easily impatient with servers — waiters, customer service, cashiers, etc. — because we feel we’re being slighted or mistreated.
Whatever the situation, we actually should be focused more on how we view ourselves in light of service. Too often we can get lost in our image — you know child of the King and Creator of the Universe — and believe everyone should kowtow to us. The attitude of entitlement, rather than an attitude of gratitude.
Good thing the King’s Son didn’t feel like that, or we would all be in big trouble.
Yes, we are children of the King, but like His Son Yeshua (Jesus), we were born to serve — to emulate Prince Yeshua.
The next time we feel indignation over poor service, perhaps we can seek to see if we can help. Or at least, be a bit more gracious.
Ask the LORD for ways we can serve today. Ways we may not have noticed before.
To be His hands to a hurting world. I think there are a lot of opportunities. Don’t you?
Shabbat shalom!
