Precious treasure and oil are in a wise person’s dwelling, but a foolish person devours all he has. Proverbs 21:20 TLV
Owners or Stewards? Shabbat Shalom! Do you like to antique shop? Ever wonder at what point a piece of furniture is considered an antique? It must be at least 100 years old! Which means that wardrobe or dining table must be well-constructed and well-cared for it to last that long. An owner of something that valuable really isn’t the owner because the furniture will last longer than them.
Hmm. Don’t you wonder how much of what we purchase today will outlive us? Maybe our dwellings — if they’re maintained. But our televisions? Computers?
Today’s proverb reminds me that we’re really not owners of those precious items in our possession, we’re more like stewards. The truly valuable blessings will be passed on to someone else — hopefully our loved ones. They will “outlive” us and become someone’s inheritance. Our legacy.
If we are wise, we will care for these treasures. They won’t be consumable items but cherished and cared for.
What about our legacy of faith? Because our true treasure is our relationship with our Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus, isn’t it?
“But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in or steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Matthew 6:20-21, TLV
Think More About It
How do you view your treasures?
Until tomorrow, may we steward our treasures wisely, my friends.
Praying for Israel
With my whole heart have I sought You
—let me not stray from Your mitzvot (commandments).
I have treasured Your word in my heart,
so I might not sin against You.
Blessed are You, ADONAI [LORD].
Teach me Your statutes. Psalm 119:10-12, TLV
What a great passage to pray. Not only for those in leadership in Israel, but for all of us. Praying with you. Shabbat Shalom and God bless you!
