To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to Adonai than sacrifice. Proverbs 21:3, TLV
Is this verse saying that God wants us to do the right thing rather than follow His commands concerning sacrifice? No.
When Yeshua became our eternal atonement for sin — our sacrifice — it was so that we would desire to do the “righteous” things out of love and respect for our Heavenly Father.
It boils down to this, God wanted the law to be carved into our hearts, not just in stone. That we would one day be so grateful we would show it by wanting His will in our life.
This is the new Covenant prophesied of in Jeremiah 31. The new Covenant Jesus ratified with His own blood — His sacrifice.
It’s not about either or, it’s about obedience springing up from our love and gratitude.
“But this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days” —it is a declaration of Adonai — “I will put My Torah within them. Yes, I will write it on their heart. I will be their God and they will be My people.
