Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105, TLV
God’s Word is My Light. Ever bump your toes or nose or head on the way to the bathroom in the middle of the night? I have. Actually, broke a couple toes. Guess what? Now that we’ve added a few strategically placed nightlights, as long as I focus on the light and get my bearings, that doesn’t happen anymore.
Seems logical, right? Why did it take so long to come up with the obvious solution?
It’s a lot like us stumbling around in life thinking we don’t need God’s word to direct us. How many times do we have to “bump” into unnecessary “obstacles” because we think we know enough to get around. The truth is, what we’re doing is trying to get accustomed to the darkness. We think because we’ve memorized a few passages — or understand basic truths — we can avoid the bumps and bruises of life.
We need the Light, especially in the darkness. Especially now.
Oy [Woe] to those who call evil good and good evil, who present darkness as light and light as darkness, who present bitter as sweet, and sweet as bitter! Isaiah 5:20, TLV
This year, my word is “Watchful.” In order to be watchful, I have to be able to see. Only by the Light of God’s word can I be watchful.
So, light ’em up! Fill our hearts and minds with the word of the Lord, every single day.
