But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Messiah died for us. Romans 5:8, TLV
Before we knew Him . . .
Before we cared . . .
Before we loved Him . . .
While we may have hated Him . . .
While we laughed at the things of God . . .
Our Heavenly Father proved His love before the creation of time when He put into play the ultimate Plan of Adoption.
He knew that in order for us to freely love Him, we would first have to have the freedom to choose NOT to love Him. Or to know of Him or believe of His existence.
And the only way that Plan would work was if His Son was willing to die. To humble Himself and to be humiliated long before we even cared that He did it. Cared who He was, is.
Finally, knowing that not everyone would choose to return so great a love and sacrifice. Yet, those sins were still carried to the cross. Jesus was burdened greatly by them all, and He still chose to do it.
So, when I am feeling sorry for myself that no one acknowledges me, or notices a good deed or two or three that I accomplished through God’s grace, I need to remember this. I need to remember to be grateful that my Father loved me so much He sent His Son to die for me — long before . . .
