Therefore, let us draw near to the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace for help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16, TLV

Therefore?         My rabbi in Philadelphia used to say, “If a sentence begins with the word, ‘therefore,’ then read the sentences before to see what it is there for.” A clever way to say, “It’s all about context.”

So, what is this “therefore” there for? Really, it is all about the redemptive work of Jesus.

“Therefore, since we have a great Kohen Gadol [High Priest] who has passed through the heavens, Yeshua Ben-Elohim [Jesus the Son of God], let us hold firmly to our confessed allegiance.
For we do not have a kohen gadol who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all the same ways—yet without sin.” Hebrews 4:14-15, TLV

Therefore, we can boldly enter our Heavenly Father’s throne room because of His Son’s redemption. Not only is Yeshua the eternal High Priest, He is the eternal Lamb of God who was sacrificed to atone for our sins and like the Passover sacrifice, covers the “doorposts of our heart”. Because our High Priest lived on this earth, He understands our frailties.

Here’s the bottom line, Jesus suffered the indignities of gestation, being born, living during a rough season of time, suffered, was tortured, and died all so that we can boldly approach His Father.

This is not a sense of entitlement because we’re “children of the Heavenly King”, it is an act of gratitude and appreciation for all Yeshua did for us. That’s a humble boldness — the “Because of You, Yeshua, I can approach our Dad” attitude.
